If you are already have Endnote X9 installed, you should be able to install X20 without any additional compatibility issues. This message is an advisory notice and is important to keep in mind if you are performing an OS upgrade to any macOS version other than 10.14 or 10.15. This is because the application is a 32-bit application running on a 64-bit processor. Note: If you are installing EndNote 20 on a macOS 10.13.4 or later you may encounter a message indicating the application is not optimized.
EndNote 20 is pre-licensed and does not require a product key. Double-click the "Install EndNote 20" icon and click the "Install" button to start the install. Download and double-click the install_endnote_20.dmg to mount the installer. Run the Customizer option from the EndNote menu of your previous version to uninstall the program and then drag the application folder to the Trash. Before you begin, back up custom styles, filters, connection files and databases. Contact your librarian to discuss options.*While it is not required, it is strongly advised you uninstall older versions of EndNote before you install EndNote 20. If your computer is having difficulties with EndNote due to storage space, speed, or age, you may want to consider using a web-based citation manager, such as RefWorks. We no longer keep the X9.2 version on the Libraries download page. Windows 10 macOS 10.14 or 10.15 (macOS 11 Big Sur is still not fully compatible yet, and Apple Silicon Macs require installation of Rosetta in order to run. If you cannot update to Catalina due to age or limitations of your computer, you may need an earlier EndNote version, X9.2. The best option would be to update your OS to at least Catalina. If you are running Mojave or earlier, the system will run 32-bit software, but not 64-bit. If you are not prompted, select "Check for updates" from the EndNote 20 menu and update to the highest number (20.x) update you can. When you download EndNote 20, you'll be prompted to download an updater for EndNote 20.1 and 20.2. All can run EndNote 20, which is the most recent EndNote version.
